Identify a coin from a photo.
Add a photo of a coin or a slab. CoinManagerPro reads the year, mint mark, denomination, coin type, and variety. For a slab, it also reads the grading service, grade, and certificate number from the label.
Each photo it reads costs 5 credits. You check the fields before you save the coin.
The Add coin dialog in CoinManagerPro. The dealer adds a photo of a raw silver dollar. The dialog reads the coin, then fills in the title 1878-CC Morgan Dollar, year 1878, mint mark CC, denomination $1, and coin type Morgan Dollar.
What coin identification does
The reading fills in the coin form, so you type less and check more.
The first photo fills in the coin
In Add coin, the first photo you add fills in the title, year, mint mark, denomination, coin type, and variety. A title you already typed stays.
Slab barcodes first
If the photo shows a slab barcode, CoinManagerPro reads the barcode and looks up the cert. It calls the AI only when there is no barcode.
Slab labels and cert lookup
For a slab, the AI reads the service, grade, designation, and certificate number. For PCGS and NGC, CoinManagerPro then looks up the cert to confirm the record.
Many coins at once
Photo intake reads one coin per photo, obverse and reverse pairs, or a tray of coins in one photo.
Close-ups of the date and mint mark
In photo intake, the year and mint mark of a raw coin are read again from full-resolution close-ups of the photo.
It says when it is not sure
Each reading has a confidence score. A photo it cannot read leaves the form for you to fill in. Uncertain mint marks and varieties show as suggestions you confirm.
A grade opinion for raw coins
On the coin page, Assess grade gives a second opinion on a raw coin's grade from its photos, for 16 credits.
In workflows
The Read a coin photo workflow step reads a coin's main photo and can fill in the grading and coin fields that are empty.
How coin identification works
01
Add a photo
Open Add coin and add a photo, or upload photos to a photo intake batch.
02
CoinManagerPro reads the coin
It reads a slab barcode if there is one. If not, the AI reads the coin or the slab label and gives a confidence score.
03
The fields fill in
The title, year, mint mark, denomination, coin type, and variety fill in. For a slab, the service, grade, and cert number fill in too.
04
You check and save
Correct any field, then save the coin. Nothing saves until you do.
Questions about coin identification
What does the AI read from a photo?
The year, mint mark, denomination, coin type, and a named variety when it is visible. On a slab, it reads the grading service, grade, designation, and certificate number from the label. It also suggests a listing title.
Does it grade raw coins?
The photo reading takes the grade from a slab label. For a raw coin, use Assess grade on the coin page for a grade opinion from the photos, for 16 credits. In photo intake, the review can suggest a grade and condition notes for raw coins.
What does it cost?
Each photo read costs 5 credits. A slab barcode read and a cert lookup are free. In photo intake, each coin found costs 5 credits.
What if it reads the coin wrong?
You see every field before you save, and you can change any of them. When the reading has low confidence, the form stays empty for you to fill in.
